Term 6 has seen Maple Class looking at the materials that make up the world around us. We’ve explored the properties of metal, wood, plastic, glass and more, and seen how they can be used to solve different problems. We have enjoyed reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes, a classic modern fable which resonates with all sorts of themes and issues that are just as relevant today as when it was written. We created our own Iron Robots and had fun adding rust and damage to them. We finished by thinking about how we can responsibly use all this material around us, with a look at ‘Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish’ by Michael Foreman. Here you can see some of our artistic creations, including our work on ‘The Island’ – where we dealt with issues of acceptance, tolerance and kindness to strangers.
