This week in Science Club, the children added coloured water to bottles of oil to see how the two liquids are immiscible (they don’t mix). They had great fun watching the droplets fall slowly through the oil.
Then we added fizzing tablets so the gas would carry the droplets back up to make our own home made lava lamp effects. We also used marble ink that is hydrophobic (stays on the surface of the water) and prefers to stick to polystyrene shapes to create marble effects on those shapes.
