During term 2 the children learnt the story, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’. When they came into school in the morning they noticed brown muddy footprints all over our classroom floor. Shortly after noticing the footprints they heard tapping at the window…it was a large brown bear! The children really enjoyed acting out the story using the large props in the outdoor classroom.
At the start of the term the children learnt about Diwali. They were lucky enough to speak to some of the children and adults in our school who celebrate the festival to find out how and why they celebrate it. The Story of Diwali soon became one of their favourite stories. They had great fun pretending to be Rama and the demon with ten heads. While learning about Diwali they made Diwa lamps out of clay. They showed great fine motor skills when moulding the pot into shape and decorating it with a variety of tools.
Throughout the term the children began to show a great interest in dinosaurs. This interest led to them changing ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ to ‘We’re Going on a Dinosaur Hunt’. One day when the children arrived at school the indoor and outdoor classroom had been destroyed. There were red footprints all over the floor. They suspected that a dinosaur had been in our school overnight! To follow the children’s interest further we went on a trip to Bristol Museum and Art Gallery to see the dinosaur bones and fossils. The children were very excited to see our very own Bristol dinosaur, the Thecodontosaurus!
At the end of the term the children took part in their first Christmas play. They had the very important job of being stars and singing the song, ‘Big Star’. They practised the song very well and did a fantastic job of performing it to their families and friends. We were very proud of them all.
Come back soon to see what we have been up to in Term 3.
